"Labyrinth at Walworth, Surrey, by Edward Francis Burney" : detail

Edward Francis Burney was commissioned to make a watercolor of the garden maze at Walworth, Surrey, England, in the late 18th century. What he depicted is a maze, but he named the watercolor "labyrinth." We use these words interchangeably, but usually, a labyrinth is unicursal and has one way in and one way out, while a maze has dead ends and is meant to confuse.
