The impressions of the bark remain embedded in the material, wrapping along the edge of the gallery where the wall meets the floor. The piece functions as a three-dimensional frottage drawing—translating a tree’s surface into a material record. The title is a 13th-century word meaning both “a dead body” and “a living body,” and later, “the main part of anything.”
